Struggles with pain

Dupuis is about 3 weeks post op. I am blessed to work with her surgeon so any complication gets address quickly. What’s happening isnt medical. Its just pain. The muscles around her site are still healing and painful when she tries to use them. Understandable. But the screaming out in pain when she tries to get up and it hurts is heartbreaking. Once she gets up and going she’s great. Im hoping a longer course of pain meds and rest will help. She’s still loving and happy but I know shes in pain. Poor little kid

  1. If you’ve posted in forums, sorry, I haven’t been there much lately …
What kind of dog is Dupuis? Bigger dogs often take a little longer to recover than smaller dogs do.
What medications have you been using? Murphy came home on Tramadol, Rimadyl & Gabapentin. That seems to be a good combination for most dogs, but some need other things, and some use a Fentanyl patch also. By this point (3 weeks) things should be getting better. Maybe you could upload a video? Others have done that in the past & it has helped others to be able to identify what was going on.

  2. Pain management is one of the biggest hurdles that we still to face in here. If you are seeing pain you might think about speaking with your vet about it. Many of us, myself included, have had to demand proper pain management for our furbabies. If pain management is not the issue, maybe there is something underlying that had not been discovered yet. A good physical exam may lead you to relief for your furbaby. Once healed, there is such an amazing difference. Hang in there, you’re still in recovery.

  3. Oh no I’m sorry I didn’t see this earlier. How is Dupuis doing now? Did you get better pain control for her? Please reach out to us in the Forums if you ever have any questions OK?

We hope things are better. Also, don’t forget that if you have her evaluated by a certified canine rehab therapist, the Tripawds Foundation may pay for your first consult. Here’s a link for more info:
